Neo Nazi protest in Manchester halted by "Party Protest Manchester" counter protest in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester.

Neo-Nazi groups E.D.L (English Defence League) and North West Infidels planned to march through Manchester city centre today. But their march was halted at Piccadilly Gardens by a counter protest organised by a group called the Party Protest Manchester. The group of around thirty Neo Nazi's came up against considerable opposition once it got to Piccadily Gardens where it was contained by Police, who had the Neo-Nazi's removed from the city centre in a double decker bus. Some arrests were made for public order offenses, namely throwing bananas and water bottles. However the mood was not as aggressive as when the Neo-Nazi's were prevented from marching through Liverpool last weekend.

 

Neo Nazi protest foiled in Liverpool by counter protest.

A group of around fifty Neo Nazis were prevented from marching through Liverpool today due to the size of the counter demonstration which greeted them. Mayor Joe Anderson spoke at a rally as another group consisting of Activists confronted the Neo Nazis. The members of the far right group National Action had planned to march through Liverpool today. But due to the hostile nature of the counter protest, consisting of hundreds of people, which was waiting for them near Liverpool's Lime Street station Police held the Neo Nazis inside the station for their own safety.

There were two groups of protestors, one was led by the Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson and made up of union members and some members of the public. Another protest consisted mainly of activists, this protest met the far right group head on, it took around fifty Police officers to form a barrier between the Neo Nazis and the activists inside and outside of the Lime Street station.  

Once the protestors had realised the far right group was inside the station they stormed inside where the police had formed a cordon. A stand off ensued and bottles of urine, milk, coke and water were thrown at the Neo Nazis, along with bananas and eggs. 

Some of the far right group made a run for it out of a side exit from the station and were chased by a small group of the counter protestors, rushing past two Police officers who were caught slightly off-guard. The activists managed to get close enough to one of them and pushed him over, he hit his head on the way down and was stunned, he was eventually taken to hospital by Paramedics. 

Six arrests were made during the course of the day.

Today in Manchester a small group of between 20-30 protestors marched through Manchester city centre, the protest consisted of members of the Merseyside Love Activists and Homeless Rights Of Justice group who are currently in occupancy of St Anne's Sq at the camp there. They were marching to raise awareness of the homelessness situation within the city and how the homeless community is being further impacted by the recent Budget announcement this week.

The demonstration set off from Piccadilly Gardens where there is a kitchen set up to specifically feed the homeless in Manchester.

After passing through Chinatown the march came to McDonalds, where upon they burst inside with their banners.

 The Police were called by staff and escorted the protestors off the premises.

After marching back to Piccadily the march tried to gain access to Halifax bank, some of the protestors made it in but security locked the doors trapping some of the protestors inside.

Eventually the Police gained control of the situation and the protestors were let out and the march continued down towards the Arndale Center.

This time the Police were infront of the march and were able to prevent the protestors from gaining entry along with bank security.

Then the march came upon this scene of a homeless man passed out by a bench with a member of the public sat on her phone totally ignoring him as did the other hundreds of shoppers who were going past at the time. If you have never been to Manchester it is quite common to see a person asleep on the floor. This is part of the issue that the protestors were demonstrating about, the fact that there seems to be no concern in the wider community for people who have ended up in this position.

The demonstrators tried to rouse him, but he was un-responsive only opening his eyes for a brief second and then flaking out again. One of the protestors got on the phone to call paramedics to the scene whilst others put the man in the recovery position.

After about 15 minutes the Police arrived on the scene and took over from the protestors some of whom made their way back to Piccadily Gardens, while others stayed around to see what was going to happen to the man.
